Some fairly thick fog here this morning. Odd really - fog is not something you normally associate with August as it's generally too dry!

Hi Bryan, not sure where it is but yesterday afternoon having a few beers out the back, we were getting lots of ash dropping on us which I too thought was a concern. I could only see thick smoke, and couldn't pin point exactly where from

Yay, Storms have already formed near Cunnamulla, associated with the Front coming through. The storms are moving quickly as well. No Briefing room thread or Breaking weather thread for it currently. There was also a bushfire last Saturday in the old Boral site (which is up the hill from the Metropol Shops off Creek Road, Carindale).

Well the long sleeved drilled work shirts are away for the year and out come the short sleeves.

Wake this morning to find no dew on the ground either, must have been warmish over night.

Overnight low of 15.9c at my house, and quite windy all night too which would prevent dew also. Looking forward to some warmth today!

I found it was quite warm overnight here getting down to only 7.3° overnight. Can start to tell Spring is on its way! smile

You could clearly see the position of the change on the satelitte image last night and again this morning to the W of Goondiwindi. Hopefully the forecasted temp here of 30° will help fire a few cells on the coast along the change this afternoon. SC has some nice instability on the coast around 4pm, and the sounding does not look too bad at all. DP's on the surface are currently between 11°-15° on the coast so I have my fingers crossed the slight increase in moisture could assist convection.

Certainly a day for a shirt and shorts thou!

Bryan, the last few times I have been out to Beaudesert, Boonah, Rathdowney it has looked tinder dryyyyy!! Even springbrook has the light brown grass crackling under the feet. Condsider we only have had 1.4mm this month and 4.6mm for July 2009, this could be a concern for bushfires. In saying that, it is quite hazy today.

Southeast Coast District
Forecast for Monday - 17/08/2009

Early morning fog patches. Cloud increasing from the southwest in the afternoon and evening with just the chance of some light rain and possible isolated thunderstorms.

A very warm day with moderate to fresh NW to W winds ahead of a
cooler SW change extending from the west in the late afternoon and evening.

I was not sure to start a BR thread on this or not.

A high to very high fire danger.

Yet another hot cold front! :evillaugh:

Overnight minimum 14.7 here and 12.2 at Tamworth.
Yesterday's 9 am reset values were much lower: 10.6 at Tamworth. So once again the actual night minimum will not appear on the records. mad

Dry here too.
Looking at five and six month rainfall totals, this is the nearest we have been to a drought since the real one of 2002.

The trusty Blipmap shows the highest CAPE values are over the Northern Rivers of NSW and Coffs Harbour, drifting out to sea by 4 pm.
From noon winds over the sea parallel the coast. There is a sharp confluence of wind at the coast from Fraser Island to Coffs. It is sharpest near Coffs, with ninety degrees difference between inland westerlies and northerlies over the sea.

STARTING TO get a bit more organised to the south west now, when it taps into coastal moisture something could get interesting

The outlook might look warm but not THAT warm, surely the BoM have made an error with that forecast?

An error in OCF then. I could be wrong but I'd think it's just too early for that sort of max temp.

Also, today's 10am Brisbane sounding looks like dog poo. laugh
