Just noticing the Bathurst min for this morning showing as approx 14 degrees, it has to be way way wrong - temp here last night and surrounding areas did not even get close to 20 prob more like 23. In fact it was probably our hottest ever Feb night.

Just worth checking as link may be incorrect, it can't be a carry over from yesterday morning because it had a min of about 18.5.

There is an unfortunate error in the system where minimum temperatures are observed. Despite years of campaigning by weather observers and enthusiasts to have this changed, minimums continue to be recorded based on 9am obs. What's worse is the fact that artificial DST adjustments mean even earlier previous-day minimums being falsely attributed to the actual day.

The best we can rely on is half-hourly AWS obs and we have to go along with the lowest value that occurs there overnight to get an idea of what the "overnight minimum" really was.

Sorry.

I understand that system but at no time in the last FEW days/nights have we been anywhere near 14 or 15 degrees. So something else is going on.

Does seem pretty unlikely given the dewpoint and the airport's 23 - the ag station is normally cooler overnight but not by that much. I also noticed it had recorded rain and the airport hadn't - does that seem right? Will follow up.

Blair - there was a bit of a shower in the afternoon but it was so hot about then that I can't see it dropping temps to that 14 or 15. The shower was a narrow curtain (very easy to see through from Kelso) that only hit a narrow strip.

I wonder if it should have been 24.5 not 14.5.

Every other station in the region was way above 14 that night (generally were in the twenties). The reader may have put the cold beer too close to the sensor. smile
