Chuck Norris let the Dogs out!

I also think he took the forum down, nobody is going to argue with him are they?

So glad to hear you made it through mission shak. Shame the trees around you didn't fair so well. So many images of denuded forest this morning.

Just noticed the new track map is out, how are conditions further inland now?

The rainband streaming into Cardwell/Ingham currently and for the past many hours should be creating some hefty totals by now, so a decent flood at Ayr should arrive on the weekend.

SO HAPPY (and amazed) at the lack of casualties, esp. hearing/seeing the live stream from Trav's chase.

Yeah pity the forum went down last night. Even after sifting through some of the clutter in the thread its still always an interesting read as events unfold. Thats if you can actually keep up with it.

Hope everyones OK. The human toll is looking positive at this stage. Lets hope it stays that way. And also well done to the QLD governmnet, Anna Bligh, disaster management and BOM. Well handled in the lead up to the event. They should be proud. Lets hope its as efficient in the aftermath, which as Aussies unite I think it will be another showcase of how bloody good the aussie spirit is.
EDIT: Just read your post Mission Shak. Great to hear all is OK!!

Thanks for your best wishes Popeye, we seem to have just caught the very edge of the eye wall as it was only about a period of about 5 minutes from when the gusts died down (they did not stop completely) to enable us to go back into the house and check for damage, all that we saw at that stage was a small hole in the roof and water pushing its way in thru the glass doors.
Within 5 minutes the guts had come back just as strong but from the opposite direction, so we quickly high tailed it back to the bus!

I can confirm for most of Cairns it is more like a Cat2 cyclone has hit. I can not comment on the storm surge. However I have received reports that 20mins-30mins ago the Esplanade walk-way was being lasted by high tides and surges.

Mostly it appear to be trees and the odd colourbond panel lying around.

Police Commissioner just noted that there "is no" confirmation that 100 people are missing in Cardwell, which was only accessed briefly be police this morning before being ordered out a again due to tide surge risk.

They have just arrived back now by reports and the SES are beginning a sweep. We will hear more in an hour I bet.

the medias reporting of yasi reminds me of an old saying "never let the truth get in the way of a good story"

We spent the night in a fishing shak in Cooktown. It got gusty and uncomfortable, but I thank God we were here and not in Gordonvale - even if it wasn't as bad as we all thought it would be. Gusts really ramped up here about 10.30 last night and the worst was over by about 4am. It was strong enough and long enough here for me and I think everyone who was willing to ride the monster out either needs a medal or a short trip to the looney bin. Stay safe all.

report from cairns:

Biggest gust recorded on my weatherstation was 73km/h cns airport had 85km/h, lucinda had 100knots/185km/h. I was at caravonica very unusual cyclone, gust were very well spred apart in time and no rain what so ever! everyone on the south copped it by the looks.

There were no sustained winds above 45km/h for any longer than 30sec

We certainly got the light side of things!

I keen to see if anyone got any readings from bingil bay?

Can anyone please take a look at the MTSAT infrared image and tell me if they see something forming off yatsis tail. Is starting to look like a distinctive circulat formation to me. could this be another cyclone forming????
