85km/h wind gusts at Tamworth Airport from a storm about 45 minutes ago, with almost 13mm falling in just 7 minutes. Would've almost certainly been some gusts over 90km/h a little further west of the airport which got the strongest part of the storm. Probably would've given the Moore Creek area a good blow.

Very nice day today also,. Pitty i hadn't even bothered checking any models this morning..Didnt even bother checking the radars as i was expecting anything to get going worth chasing would have been north of port mac and im still a lil buggered after another late night goin through some of the vids and photos from the day..Had i bothered sussing things though i would have stayed on this system all the way to qld! Managed a few heavy showers though with some localised flooding about the place.
Through the video speeding it up a little a lot rotation was going on even with a few of the earlier cells..The first Sc footage though very amateurish and a bit of sloppy handy work ruins it a little (the hd cam i was using didnt have a tripod mount so i resorted to taping it on the tripod with paper medical tape) that and the added excitement should return a interest timelapse..gotta work out to bleep it a tad also! And as for the second SC yes the beaver tail was short of gorgeous some of the best structure ive seen in many years and i'd like some expert opinions on a lowering under the wall cloud the looked very suspect to me once i seen it on vid.
Could anyone suggest a decent free user friendly program to do timelapse with as i lost all my progs off my old hard drive and the only programs i can find only deal with using photos etc, im using windows movie maker and auto stitch for panos atm. Speaking of i better get my butt back to editing..
Wow, look at those storms already moving into Qld! In my time watching radars i've never seen storms move so quick - they're howling along! From Central NSW to almost the Gold Coast within one day.. crazy.

Looking forward to the video.
Anymore info on this possible tornado in the ACT?
The first one i done my best to get as many photos as i could of it because it was that close i couldnt fit much into frame..@18mm it took about 20 photos to get most of it in.. It was very HP the first cell that photo doesnt pay justice to the beast..The base alone was not very big at all maybe 500m aross, it was just one solid updraught with very litle if anything flanking off it. Very nice rain free base and a even better rear flank downdraught, it was though it had sucked all the moisture out of the surrounding dams and dump it ontop of us at once..

Yeah I would agree with MC Thomas very likely an LP supercell!! The second one looks more classic. Today I got onto that HP Beast that went from Forster-South West rocks. I too expected not much either but left here at 11:30am after seeing radar. In hindsight looking at models today was primed. Got onto the storm near Port Macquarie and was happy to see the storm come back onshore. Frustrating day in terms of photos - scud was very prominent along the coastline in the deep NE flow and coupled with the huge amounts of trees and lack of roads to the coast after Johns River finding a spot to view the storm was hard. Need to do photos (or the lack of) and they will do the storm no justice, but from a bit of a search on the internet the storm looked almost exactly like this http://www.nitwitweatheridiot.net/striation.jpg . The striation would indicate to me there was a meso on the storm.. now how I would have liked to have been at Crowdy Head or Crescent Head in time to have seen it on approach and gotten timelapse! Oh yeah also got a bit of a corepunch.. really heavy rainfall (amazing photos Ezz) and some STRONG winds (obs at Port Macquarie indicate 70km/hish) I would have guestimated a tad more where I was..

And another one here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_x6Ltt_q_sM&feature=related . Follow this guys other two links to see some flash flooding at the beach. Winds looked around 100kmh in the video. The storm didn't last that long so the rain rates must have been ridiculous..

Watched the storm come over from the south - the sky was so black.
Has been a very stormy day up here on the coast - good light show on the way to Woolgoolga last night as well.

Thank you both, Dave-Wx and Ben .. your posts have given me more information about the Port Macquarie storm today. I'm a noob but have always liked watching storms/observing natural phenomenon around me and am learning constantly from everyone here ... thanks again.

Well a quick update on the report progress!! stuck on one section of footage (hopefully get it online asap) 23min standard roll on the singo supercell ive condensed that down to 2min at x1000fps and ive been going through both pieces over and over all night...
When posted i would like as much feedback on the footage (both amature and prof) as to your thoughts and opinions on what you see -for those with good eyes- in a few areas a few things might become pronounced-in others you'll need to look a tad harder. (dont worry this isnt one of those poo your pants, Boo! vids either) well i almost did on a few occasions but i wont got into that.
If only i knew how to pull the footage from the camera,.onto the puter, straight online without much fuss.. (ive sorted the timelapse out finally!) One file is currently uploading slowly -the 23min- but its going to take alooot longer for it to upload then ive spent going over it..
Anyhows i'll get back to it and as things are edited i'll post them up.,. Should have a few interestesting pano's coming shortly too the 4 photos i posted earlier where just random grabs from the thumbnail pile.
Best bit of this vid is the fact that yes i got some gooood stuff in the first 10-15min,. I had driven off forgetting i was still rolling out the side back window and the camera took in just a tad lot more then i did trying to corepunch this lil tame beast.
Not trying to gloat, and hold anyone off from there daily duties in anticipation,.. Damn it'll kill me first ;o) Im just a tad stoked with the results is all. and ive only just starting looking at all the footage.
Great YouTube footage on that link Ben, pretty ferocious wind. Aaah, If only we saw something like that in Sydney this Summer - minus major damage of course.
Bring on that footage Corepuncher, good luck with the edit.

OFF TOPIC: I reported the Namoi radar problem yesterday and Julie Evans from the NSW BoM phoned me this morning to confirm the problem will be looked at.
Good to see some footage and photos from Port Macquarie. Good work Ben on getting out and chasing that thing down. I can imagine that photography would be difficult under those conditions. Port Macquarie surface obs at the temperature at 24 C with a dew point of 22 C prior to the storm. Therefore, I would expect a lot of low-level cloud to get in the way. I was expecting a few reports of hail but so far have heard of none. Maybe the storm dumped the bulk of its hail out to sea or maybe it was just a huge rain producing beast?

under an hour left uploading,. in the meantime ive done up pano's of the first Sc -the splitter/left mover- sorry about the quality as most were taken handheld and trigger happy,.add the adrenaline,. you get the drift
Was rather chuffed after the prior nice garden variety cells off the trough line to be greeted through the tree tops a nice wallcloud in the making,
Decided the need to find clear area away from the dreaded powerlines! And a few hundred meters noticed a car pull out of a small track so i went to investigate and was greeted with,

Got myself comfy to enjoy nature at its finest (at this stage i couldnt not think of seeing anything better on this day),. The only thing missing was popcorn and a whole bunch more people to enjoy the show with.
The tail end of this little puppy to the left of frame,.The right mover to the left of frame -it basically split going over head.
i'll get to work now on some panos of the mothership,. Video of the next cell is almost ready..woot woot. And i'll also work on more timelapes prior to these photos and the monster coming to life prior to the clip of the day.,. and most likely sometime this century more from throughout the day.
Basically the rainbow base to the right actually DID lead me to a pot of gold as thats where i parked my butt for round two

Wow corepuncher what can I say I'm very jealous of you! Would have liked to have been out there too but uni got in the way. Being a big fan of panos as they give the whole representation of the storm, the first supercell indeed looked like a beautifully structured LP, cherish it, they are rare in Australia (I've still only seen one..). The second SC's wall cloud looked extremely low I can see how you think it may have dropped something, I guess we'll never know! It sure fell apart fast though! Good editing apart from the volume, perhaps attempt to kill that in future In terms of the Port storm MC yeah for the duration of it the core was offshore, believe me after your post about hail I was keen Thankfully the storm was facing the right way for a full view of the structure at least. P.s. Sercy I can't seem to get that vid working!
Yeah you scored well corepuncher, prehaps that lowering in the cloud was a downburst or downdraft? anyway thanks for sharing. Ben well done on your chase to Port Mac too!!. I just love nothing better than a severe storm following the coastline, they can be alot of fun, its been a while since ive seen one. As i reported in an early post that i recorded 23.8mm at home, just a few K's away at the Golfy they recorded a shade over 43mm

Thanks Micheal! Glad they listened to you.
3.6mm fell here yesterday from a little bit of light rain and getting the edge of a thunderstorm yesterday afternoon.
No rain or storms here so far today but it looks like there's some showers and a few storms developing to the west of here on the radar.
