Great footage you've got there CP, reminds me of an encounter I had with a LP supercell in December 2004 (can't remember the date) I vividly recall me and my bro sitting on the front porch of his place in Greta watching this spectacular LP supercell pass within a few km's of his place, it seriously looked like a scene out of independence day when the ships first arrive! It's still to this day one of my most memorable weather events.

Awesome CP.
I love those moments before a solid storm hits, when you just take in the enormity and power of it ..then realise you're about to get smashed!
Plus you're generally still dry and can enjoy the lightning more.

That would be this one CoastalStorm wink http://www.sydneystormchasers.com/node/584. Great day that one, got a classic supercell with 7cm hail, followed by that one (we were on the wrong side of the storm to see the structure for that one unfortunately)

Yeah the noise is a little overbearing after watching it several times over during the night,. I downloaded a trial of videopad professional (sweet program once i figure it all out)..The am static was literally constant for over an hour.. When i can i will upload the unedited version of Sc#2 amoung the rest of the footage.

The first one took on awesome structure Lp style and done this very rapidly,. But its rfd was nothing short of WET..and windy, That'll be the next one i work on after a nap. When i can i'll also edit out sound etc as im pretty sure some of my ol mans yabbering (was his first chase with me) would put the most hypo of addhhhd suffers to sleep quick smart,. ohh and the language is sometimes a tad non kiddy-work friendly smile

I've seen a couple of LP sc's in the past but not as gorgeous as that one thats for sure..as per the second Sc ive got a mate within the Ses doing some canvassing for me re damage etc as im pretty sure that on a couple of times there was funnel meet ground,.The Lp would have done a little damage as the straight liners were hard fast and nothing short of furious,. though the distance away made getting clean quality of the lowering hard -that and i hardly paid attention to the vidcam for the most part- Ive also taken a frame by frame grab of the entire vid and a few photos are showing either funnels,.naders and some nice gustnadoes when i was mobile abiet very hard to pick on the first few runs,. once ive mastered this editing side of things (turns a hobby into a fulltime job!) i will try and mark out each area of interest. Though in real time the roations is rather evident.

I have a few people looking over the footage and giving me there input once they finish.

Naders or not it was up there with one of the better ive seen for a looong time.

Ah yes, that's the one alright, ahhh good times! I actually got caught in the first storm at Mt Vincent/Mulbring, thankfully i only managed hail to 4cm so must have missed the core on that one, still managed some hefty dings in the car tho.

Great work core puncher. Thanks for putting in the time to get these photos and video up. The first storm looks like an LP supercell to me, or maybe a "drier type" classic supercell. Looks to be a lot of precipitation falling quite close to the updraft base in the forward flank downdraft. Nice looking storm either way. I love storms punching up into clear blue sky.

I like the time lapse of the second storm alot. Nice looking wall clould there. I would guess that the storm was intially a classic supercell around Putty. At that time the storm was quite compact and there was a small hook or inflow notch for a few scans. After that, I think a transition to a HP supercell occurred. In your time lapse, it can be seen that there was a huge amount of precipitation falling the RFD. I think therefore that it was probably a HP supercell by the time it got to you.

Interesting that two very different supercells can occur so close in time and location.

Also, I thought I should mention this. Yesterday I mentioned possible hail spikes or Three Body Scatter Spike (TBSS) from the coastal supercell. Now I am not too sure if that is correct. These "spikes" are definitely artifacts, just what is causing them is confusing. These spikes do seem to occur after intense storm cores and are in line with the radar beam. This fits with a typical hail spike. They are, however, much larger than one would expect. This is taken from this website http://www4.ncsu.edu/~nwsfo/storage/cases/20081001/

"The Three Body Scatter Spike (TBSS) radar signature is generally a 10-30 km"

Yesterday, these "spikes" were up to 200 km long! I am confused.

My one and only photo from yesterday, unfortunately I think just when it was weakening. Further south this better formed. This is facing SE, this structure curved along to the west, where there was an okay looking wall cloud. Wish I had been able to find a vantage point..

Nice photos and timelapse CP! Nice wall cloud in that vid and it does look like there was a touchdown there! Nice photo there too Ben! I really wish we got something like these supercells.

Ben even though you only got one shot you bagged a keeper,.I was watching that cell for a while on radar and wishing i was one it..Road options are the biggest issue more so vantage points.

A few more Pans of the Hp, There is a good chance the right mover that split from the Lp i got onto took on all most the same structure, Someone mentioned earlier Mc? that they appeared to take a clock-anticlock wise motion..

If i was to be looking north between the too they both took on a similar corkscrew shape bit look to be spinning away from each other,. The left mover i got on to seemed to have a little life in it but the poor right one was getting dragged into the belly of the Hp.

From around 6:15pm onwards

We had our first decent rain in weeks this morning as well, we actually had puddles of water in the back yard. Had to put a raincoat on the dog to get him outside, and I haven't had to do that for months! I haven't taken the measurements yet but this is probably the most rainfall that we have had since January.

Guage ticked over for 54mms to 9am with some heavy falls starting at around 1.30am,63mms/hr at one stage.
Heavy falls must have been localized as stations around us have recored much less than here.
ABC radio reported 43mms at Berry.
No rain since sunrise,overcast,20.7c,wind ESE around 15km/hr & baro 1015 here atm.

No storms but got the best drenching in months this morning here. Most of the 56mm I recorded fell between 5am and 8am. Terrey Hills up the road did better at 61mm.

Wow, some great falls over the nothern beaches area this morning, Marts must be pleased with his 70mm+!! A nice 13mm just up the road here in Rose Bay which would have to be the best fall since about December i think.

Well I never, rain moving in from the east! Very surprised at some of those totals, orographic enhancement doing its thing in the usual places.

Looks like it will be short lived though as another warm westerly regime moves in next week. Still may not be enough to save Obs Hill from its driest March on record, just 10 mm there.

It's pouring here, just started up about half an hour ago. So much for all my painting plans. SE wind, and this seems easterly too, very low clouds, so low the radar can't see them.
