A. HILLARY. But whoever it is will be bad.

Q. Do you think social media has been good or bad for society?

A. Can be good, but everything on this planet always get abused by some. Personally, I don't use Facebook, Pinterest and other such mediums, but forums is my closest access point to social media.

Q. Three men go to stay at a Hotel are charged $30.00 for a room. So the men split the cost ten dollars each. Later the hotelier tells the Concierge that they had overcharged the men, that the room should have been $25.00. The Concierge gives the bellboy $5.00 and tells him to give it to the men.

The bellboy, however, decides to give each of the men only one dollar, and pockets $2.00 himself.

Now each man has paid $9.00 and the bellboy has pocketed $2.00. $27.00 + $2.00 = $29.00 but not $30 that was originally paid

So where is the missing $1.00?

A. The men started with thirty dollars, and gave the concierge all 30 dollars. The concierge gave the bellboy 5 dollars, before the bellboy gave the men 3 dollars and then the bellboy kept the other 2 dollars.

So the concierge has 25 dollars, the bellboy has 2 dollars and the men have 3 dollars. 25+3+2=30 dollars.

Q. Am I right?

A. The missing dollar would've gone to the bellboy.
They paid $30, and then he got $5 back.
Concierge has $25 and bellboy pocketed $2, so total accounted for =$27. So essentially, as far as the other men know, they paid $9 each for the room.
"The bellboy, however, decides to give each of the men only one dollar, and pockets $2.00 himself."
Each of the men would assume that a dollar will go to all three of the men. So 25+2+1+1+1= 30.

Q. Are rainiac and I right?

Beat me to it rainiac, sorry did not see your post. Spent a fair while doing the math and didn't refresh the page poke

A. The answer right guys, as the hidden detail was in the question. Most people look that the what 3 men paid each of $9 each (total $27), and the bellboy having $2, thus totalling $29. The missing dollar was never missing, whereas the proofs you both had supplied are good reasonings.

Another way to reconcile the proof is the total cost of the room is as follows:

3 men forked out $27 (3 x $9) for the room,
Less the $2 the bellboy has kept,
thus leaving the cost of the room $25 for hotel.

The Equation looks likes follows:

($10 x 3) - $5 = (3 x $9) - $2

Q. Do you like brain teasers like these? If so, please provide one.

A. Yep, I love brain teasers. They make you think outside the box which you need to do very rarely normally. I thought your one was great.

Q. If:
5+3+2= 151022
9+2+4= 183652
8+6+3= 482466
5+4+5= 202541

Then what does 7+2+5 equal?

I hate cricket but had a laugh that a reporter was warned re dress code as her dress, quite modest really, was to high above the knee at one of the big cricket grounds, fair dinkum !!!

This one is more interesting for the mathematicians here -

***************

524127

Add mathematical signs ( +, - ,),( *,/ ) in between all or some of the above digits so the result of the created mathematical equation will be 100.

A hint or two, all done with single numbers, ie out of the initial 524127 the joining of any of them ie 52 or 12 or 241 is not required.

Brackets (, ) are important grin

Close rainiac, but the answer I have is -

5*(-2+4)*(1+2+7)=100

Not sure, (its been a long time since I studied), that (4+1-2+7)=10 btw.

Re summer, to early to tell at this stage.
What do others think of the mathematics above ?

Answer: All correct

Rainiac - (5*2)*(4+1-2+7)=100 = Correct

samboz - 5*(-2+4)*(1+2+7)=100 = Correct

Ronfishes - (5*2)*(((4+1)-2)+7) = 100 = Correct (I think this what Ronfishes meant with his answer).

My Answer would be using an exponent would be

5 to the power 2, x ((-4-1)+(2+7)) = 100

Q. Can I use an exponent in the question samboz?

Excellent reply, thanks J Pabo-

Well done Rainiac !

Don't think using an exponent is within the original question
parameters but it is another way to arrive at the answer, so thanks grin
