Hi Everyone, Plenty of snow on Mt.Wellington this morning. Down to about 500 meters I reckon. Still rainy showers pushing through as I'm typing and can be seen falling as snow on the Mountain. Also very windy last night , it's not unusual for the BOM to not put out wind/gale warnings. Have gone through many a day or night with the winds howling and the windows creaking and it's just classed as another day , after all we on an Island Great to finally see some Winter at last. Was in Launceston earlier in the week and had some really cold nights around -1 to 1 . Drove back to Hobart on Friday and could see Ben Lomond in the distance with a fair amount of snow on the higher peaks. Looks like it could be a warm start to next month again, but it seems like it's going to one of those years that keep going from Winter to Spring back to Summer and then back to Winter all within a two week period. Cheers form The Bart.

Hi guys, duckweather I don't live in Tassy just monitoring the situation down there. BOM finally put out the SWW around lunch time today. This warning should have been out around 18hrs earlier. Kinda slack if you ask me.

Weather Situation A vigorous westerly flow will strengthen as a developing low pressure system and associated cold front approach Tasmania, before crossing the state overnight and early Monday.
Damaging westerly winds averaging 60 km/h with peak gusts around 100 km/h are forecast for King Island and parts of the North West Coast district. Wind gusts are forecast to reach 120km/h in the Western, Central Plateau, East Coast, North East, South East, Furneaux Islands and Upper Derwent Valley districts.
The State Emergency Service and Tasmania Police advise that people should:

The next warning will be issued by 11:00 pm EST Sunday.

A bit arctic last night, even on the coast, heavy frost at home, outdoor thermometer which is probably overexposed read -2 as the min last night and was reading 0 at 8am. Even at 8am the windows were re-freezing when putting water on them despite the windscreen wiper...
Typically it was raining by the time I reached waratah - where there was still frost on the ground.

A seriously cold and frosty night/morning in Hobart. Currently 4.7 at 10am and i think it got down to 1.5 around 5.30am The windchill made it feel more like -2 most of the night. Alot of frost on my car and lawn this morning. The water in the dogs bowl had turned to ice!

Hi all , Well what a up and down week. Got to nearly 18 Degrees today in Lenah Valley. More like an October day. Frost and snow has has gone and those warm Northerlies are back They have been so consistent this year. Also getting pretty gusty now and looks like we may get some showers tonight. I read somewhere on this forum ( can't remember where ) that another member had the opinion that all the Highs and Warm Northerlies we are getting this year down South are because of the change/indication that next season will be from a La Nina to El Nino . Has anyone heard of this or have any thoughts. I'm keen to learn more. Cheers for The Bart.

Hey Pic Du Midi. Have you been up high anywhere to try and get some proper cold weather See some snow falling? It would be easy to find some if you can gain elevation there. You're in one of the wetter parts of the state there so no surprised it's damp. Good to see you experiencing good Tassie breezes. How long are you there?

Was sleety and wet across the plateau on Friday arvo, got back to the Bronte Park turn off (from Queenstown) and had been just in front of the weather all day then turned straight into it on the cross over to Miena. Was ok in Launnie Friday arvo but rained most of Fri night and Sat morning - Ben had a decent cover that was peaking out from under the cloud on Sun.
Was a great cover on Rufus and Frenchmans cap, patchy snow along the side of the road up Arrowsmith and round Miena. Lady at Derwent bridge shop said they missed the snow the weekend before, just a sprinkling, but had a bit so far this year, best fall was 4 inches...in March... said she'd had 4 white christmas's in 12 years there and it's been a pretty warm 12 years. Goodness knows what Christmas was like 150 years ago.

On another note, charts seem to be building nicely toward a decent cold change in the next couple of weeks, i.e. a good low level snow event. Might be late next week as per the models but certainly in the week or two there after, long wave pattern lining up
