Thanx Unstable, I'm at work but can pop outside from time to time so fingers crossed I might be lucky, altho I am in the CBD so there might be too much light to see anything. Will let you know how I get on.

Hah! I cut a fine figure dont I Unstable? smile

Cloudz, the shower should actually be visible everywhere in both hemispheres which is not always the case. Of course its always hit and miss with these things. If you are cloud free then just look eastwards or upwards probably from say 3.00am till daylight.

How did you end up on this thread anyway? smile Nice to have you! smile

No unusual activity in the eastern sky over the last few hours unfortunately, but thanks for the 'heads up' anyway. We had quite a bit of cloud cover till about 04.30, which didn't help. Hope you've had more luck over SA.

I just started a breaking weather thread for the weak surface and upper disturbance predicted to cross SA this weekend.
As much in hope as expectation smile

Yeah I've been watching it approach since last night Unstable. Got my fingers crossed..looks like lightning has stopped in the last couple hours but hopefully we have some luck, we're about due for some!

Hoping we have clear skies but it's not looking so good at the moment frown

Well I braved the cold from about 4.00 - 4.30am and counted ten meteors of which I'd say seven were Eta Aquarids. A couple were nice, leaving a brief trail in their wake. Honestly the cold temperatures detract from the experience. I was glad to get back home to my warm bed. It wasn't the smartest thing for me to do as I'm already suffering from a severe head/chest cold! frown

Damn I thought it was tonight (tomorrow morning)

Did it peak last night? (this morning)

I remember reading it was on the 5th but I assumed that was tonight stupidly.

Well done Lord Gladstone for going out into the biting cold notwithstanding your ailment and seeing about ten more meteors than any other SA members have reported seeing (unless they've reported them on a non-SA thread) cheers

And yes I must agree you do cut a fine figure in your corset cool Hillsrain will be so impressed he'll purchase one next.
I don't know Christopher whether there would be any meteors from that shower tonight. Don't forget your hard hat if you're outside looking, just in case poke

As SD was commenting on the other thread, looks like Hillsrain weather for the rest of the week, with significant rain totals for some of us - enough to keep germinated annuals growing maybe. Here's BOM's latest rainfall ests:
"Cumulative rainfall totals until midnight Friday are expected to be 15 to 25 mm over southern coasts and ranges and over the Flinders Ranges south of Hawker. 5 to 15 mm over the remainder of the southern agricultural area and up to 5 mm elsewhere."

well US, looks like a plethora of SW stream showers interspersed with occasional frontal lines if you ask me. Cold air further east kept out by dominating high should compound and tighten the stream effect away from me. Traditionally not a great setup for my area this early in the season. There has however been some aberrative behaviour in stream locations in the last few months and this can be my clutch of straws.
The good start to the year is rapidly being engulfed by the dry wet season start. We are not all that far above average YTD as it currently stands. 3.5mm last night, 6.6 for the week and just 16mm for the month thus far.
Temps cool. 10.4max today and has dropped rapidly to be 4.5 now @ 7:20pm. Not a lot colder I should not think. Frosts are rarer than hens teeth here.
Evenings are rich and contrasty when the sun is out. Taken recently down by my rapidly shrinking dam.

Well, I sure hope this forecast is wrong, because if May is supposed to be well above normal for the Northern Agricultural area, then for the rest of the year, we're all screwed: http://www.weatherzone.com.au/long-range-forecast/12-month-rain/sa/north-agricultural

Yeah good luck Christopher! Wow wouldn't a supercell be something. Good timing too! Storm season firing in the States while we're cold, wet and miserable here. Well I am anyway! frown

Nice move Chris #3. If you've been following the US Severe Weather Season thread keeping an eye out on the Threads by Ruckle and the Trenthamstormchasers and also their web site, then you should have no problems keeping up with the Tornado's etc.

Good luck,

John
