BOM forecast for Fitzroy Crossing was possible late storm and 42 yesterday for today, so they pretty much had it right. Not sure where you got 49 from?

As an aside the 47 for Marble Bar is the highest I've seen forecast by the BoM this spring/summer, and I can't ever recall a 48 forecast, though maybe the days when Nyang (18th iirc) and Mardie (20th) both hit the 50 mark in Feb 98 it was forecast (48C that is). Hot in anyones language eek

Weatherzone frequently shows Cygnet bay to a max of 48c, yet it only ever reaches around 42. I find that a little bizzare.

If my memory is serving me right, I think I can recall seeing a forecast of 47C last summer also for Marble Bar or another locality within the Pilbara. However, I have never seen a forecast for a top of 48C for anywhere in Australia. It will be interesting to see the BoM forecast late this afternoon for Marble Bar.

If you have never seen a forecast of 48C for anywhere in Australia then look at Marble Bar\'s forecast now.

Ceduna in SA at 41.7C at 11.30am could be a remote chance to get up to 48C or close today if all the current conditions stay like they are for the next 4-5 hours...

I wasn't too surprised to see the Marble Bar forecast of of 32-48 but only 2 lines up on the official BOM WA Town temperatures, Roebourne is going for 31-49.

That forecast for Roebourne looks nicer with the WZ colours here !

Some strong offshore winds indicated by the seriously high temps forecasted for the coastal locations. Watch Nyang/Emu Creek for this one. A shame that Mardie is not reporting as they would be the pick for the best crack at 50 in this synoptic setup.

Further down that colour page for Roebourne the January highest on record is given as 48.4C on 24th 1985.

Wow at the forecasts heatwise for the Pilbara eek They will all be hoping for the slight chance of storms but the bases will be 14000ft lol and with any storms there could be some interesting dry microbursts but they'd have to manage to hit a station direct for us to observe them (call me cap obvious). The 3pm obs had 48 at Telfer and 47 at MB and Roe, but MB esp probably got higher after 3pm, given heat max is probably around 4 or 5pm now given DLS.

Every state bar Tas has been getting scorched in the last couple of weeks, the only slight surprise is that N SA, while having every day above 40 in some cases this month, has not REALLY baked, 45,46,47 etc like we know it can (Marree, Oodnadatta, Moomba and Roxby downs I'm looking at you lol)

Todays Pilbara forecasts are the type of forecast that you would print and frame. eek

It is a shame that Mardie is presently not reporting. I would expect Mardie to hit 50C given its elevation. The temps on the coastal areas may get as hot or if not hotter then the inland stations depending on the timing of the sea breeze. It is predicted to hit 47C at Port Hedland.

Marble Bar already 40C at 9am, definately looking good for 50C in Roebourne if the conditions stay right! First 50C temp in Australia (recorded) since 1998, a fairly big event in weather terms really...

50c is astounding, pure ambient temperature, let alone radiant heating from objects, colours etc. I just cant imagine tolerating that kind of heat. Half boiling point! eek So much energy out there, should pump water over black iron and run turbines.. then lose all the power in transmission since it's so isolated laugh

Well looking at current obs over NW WA and then seeing it is only 9:30am, I am thinking the 50 degree mark will definitely get a shake if the winds maintain an offshore component for long enough.

It looks as though Port Hedland is well on its way to a record. It is already 42.5C (0934 Local) and going by the sounding and the present conditions, the sea breeze is not going to kick in anytime soon. The middle and high level cloud is the only factor that will give a little relief.

Port Hedland up to 43.5C at 10am, c'mon son, only 7.3C more to go then we can get rid of that record temp from Oodnadatta that occured way back in the 1960's...we need a more current all-time record in my opinion!

As of 11:30 Port Hedland is 46.2 and with a solid SE wind continuing, the seabreeze should kick in for a while yet. Marble bar is a little behind but being more inland, a seabreeze will not be a problem however a seabreeze at Port Hedland might not occur this afternoon so if that is the case, I think PH is in with more of a chance.
