Onslow Airport and Marble Bar are both on 49.1 and it's only 1:20PM over there. Worth watching. If it was somewhere familiar I'd say another couple of degrees to go. No Southerly changes up there and no sea breeze at Marble Bar.

49.1 is 120.4 in the old money, for those who remember.

Onslow's dropped away a little in the last observation, although the wind is still SSW and the dewpoint hasn't risen so it doesn't look like a proper seabreeze (yet).

Might be a little cloud cover in the Pilbara which will put a lid on things, still a couple of stations over 49C is pretty impressive.

There is another potential for a close 50 in the Pilbara on Sunday (Jan 13th) as EC pegs in a good patch of 47-49s. The best of the areas where these insanely high temperatures are set to be forecasted do not have an AWS, if there was a handful around that area, then it would be quite interesting to see how many 50+ days we can record. Any close AWS' are either on the coast or 100-150km away.

What a time for the Marble Bar updates to screw up! Now we won't know what the intra 10min high is until tomorrow ffs.

Mardie has gone offline altogether and no updates since Friday.

Incredibly frustrating.

Hopefully it is a communication issue and not a site issue. Three sites having update issues (Legendre Island too) seems too coincidental.

Checked the fault logs and there's just a report that Mardie had gone offline, no indication yet as to cause. Marble Bar was always reporting OK to the database but in a way that was causing the website not to pick up the live feed - looks to have been fixed now.

Kalgoorle temperatures are MIA too, wonder what the issue is there?

Port Augusta just smashes its old 48.2C with a new 48.9C and maybe itís not done yet.

Tarcoola 48.8C and not done yet either.

Incredible stuff from Port Augusta. Fairly recent AWS (est 2000), man i wish that site had a good long 100 years of records to compare.

Even in this widespread and long lived extreme heat, still can't get an AWS to exceed 50 degrees. What does it bloody well take lol

There were manual sites in Port Augusta before 2000, but in less favourable places to get really high temperatures. (Whyalla had a 49.4 in 1960).

Tarcoola looks to have topped out at 49.0, a new record for that site. Tarcoola's been operating since 1921 but with an unfortunately-timed gap which includes the 1960 heatwave.

Blair, do you have some record temps for Cook? I wish it was still going because I'm almost certain it would have captured a 50C in this current heatwave.
