Port Augusta now 45C at 10.45am!! Adelaide 5C behind but the hottest air doesn’t arrive there until 4pm... Where does the hottest air arrive from? Above? Where is it now? Is there a weather station there? From the interior around the NT/WA border which has 850hpa temps around 34C today

Wow even Port Lincoln has cracked 48°C, it usually dodges the heatwaves but not this time. As mentioned above, Port Augusta has also reached 48, as has Ceduna. There's also multiple 47's across the state.

Tarcoola looked like it was out for the count, but comes back with a late 49.1. Has it got any more puff left, that's the question...
Fascinating to watch this minute to minute. Does highlight just how extreme the weather needs to be to get to 50C.

If you round it to the nearest degree it's 50°C!

There are probably plenty of people sweltering who envy us on the NSW north coast where temperatures have seldom left the twenties this month. Just a pity about our humidity. I find dew points in the mid-twenties, as we're experiencing today, quite oppressive, especially when there's not much breeze. Adelaide's dew points today are around 20° lower. I'm not sure which I'd prefer.
Just a thought ...

@Blair Trewin how many 50+ in the non-digitalised paper records? The only one we know of with standard instruments is a 50.0 at Wilcannia during the 1939 heatwave.

That would make the Wilcannia 50 the NSW record would it not? And not far off Mardie and Ood. When do you expect it to be digitalised?

Save some dough and stop putting AWS in the desert. Use that to get it done. Before the dumbasses at the ABC, SBS and Fairfax turn a future NSW 50 into a 'hottest evah' meme, coz they looked up climate data data extremes and no one in your illustrious bureau corrects the dumb shiitzzz
