first few days of April could be big, or could be nothing! Depending on ex TC Iris. Hoping for one final downpour before season ends. with the RR Dam at 93% be great to see it fill up.

Had a small heavy shower come over, probably only lasted 5-10 mins, but shows you how water logged the soil is, our back yard was an instant swamp, road was covered with water out 1 meter from the gutters(this usually only happens after days of rain), the culvert across he road has 2 foot of water flowing down it(usually only get a small Flow you can barely see after that short period.

If the dam gets to 100% would be a good idea not to open gates. Let the level rise a tad more due to end of wet season
No need for that extra room for flood mitigation
If it gets to 120% would be a good start for start of dry season
Alrhough would be a bugger if another cyclone came through

Despite the above, I still don't think the Herbie Burdie will see much from this system.

Re: North Queensland Wet Season - Cardwell to Bowen - April 2018 - 02/04/2018 08:59

1mm over night. No it doesn't look like we will get anything. Time to start pulling out the cyclone food and start eating it. I keep getting SWW and with 1mm of rain and a maximum wind gust of 14kph yesterday is it anyone wonder no one takes these seriously? No it isn't.

Re: North Queensland Wet Season - Cardwell to Bowen - April 2018 - 02/04/2018 09:16

SBT - And yet on other threads there are people complaining that there aren't any warnings out. You can't please everyone. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Re: North Queensland Wet Season - Cardwell to Bowen - April 2018 - 02/04/2018 09:19

all depends if this system remains weak or not. if it does a SW movement brings it close to us, a southerly movement or eastwards we say goodbye.

BOM have to take into account every possible scenario.

Re: North Queensland Wet Season - Cardwell to Bowen - April 2018 - 02/04/2018 12:01

Time to say goodbye now me thinks. Some models do play with bringing the system back to the coast late this week.

Standing on a step ladder checking the gutters waving by bye to any chance of a cyclone heading back this way. Sigh another dud cyclone season for us. Dam is at 95.4% capacity only bright point for us.

sure is great to have secure water in the dam again. still two wet weeks for the whole season, and just about on average now for the wet, so looking back - been awesome but not spectacular.

Re: North Queensland Wet Season - Cardwell to Bowen - April 2018 - 02/04/2018 23:58

no, sadly not, just moving a bit further south and slightly stronger than originally thought id say.

BOM and EC both had this system moving SW today, slightly closer to our coast, we only needed 100km further west to get to other side of flinders reef, would give us rain and some gales, system would at least side swipe us.
Nope, the damn thing has wobbled further east today instead. totally against the flow and the forecast.
just cant figure it out hey.

yes - NW movement could prove interesting indeed. Currently showing a washout - but then again - not many models were interested in reforming it to start with.

finished march with just below the magic 1000mm - 975 at home. certainly made up for the slackr jan\feb i had

Has gotten a bit breezy in BG.

Hopefully we’ll see some rain from Iris (probably ex-Iris) if she does move back toward the NW as forecast.

Not expecting anything from soon to be ex-Iris if she moves NW, she'll be too far away to our East by the looks of things.
