Weatherzone Survey - 10/02/2003 15:55

Has any of the Weatherzone members completed the survey? Also what are your views on having lightning tracker overlays on regional radar images? I for one would welcome this if it happened.

Andy, The survey was sent in the form of an email.

Re: Weatherzone Survey - 10/02/2003 17:14

Hi Andrew, was the "survey" a document i received in my e'mails, that offered a chance to win a mobile phone and had a "weatherzone" tag to it? If it was - i would'nt go any further, i've had it up to my neck with e'mails that offer things if you complete them, & am also concerned that in the last 12 months i've had offers on weather related stuff from sites i've not seen. This is no reflection whatsoever on WZ security, but i do not trust the service provided areas, we left provider last year because of the same thing. Had to get an internation block put on our phone becos of a financial survey we "innocently/stupidly" took part in. If anyone offers me anything for "free" or a "chance to win" tied to a survey, i won't even open it. If WZ wants to do a survey, i suggest it be in the form of a thread, or locked thread like our polls - if anything is tired to MSN or the like it wont be openned buy me & i know a few others have learnt from similar experiences!

Re: Weatherzone Survey - 10/02/2003 18:11

FE the survey was by way of a linked URL contained within an email, no attachments, no free phones. I completed it and felt it was conducted very efficiently. With all surveys, the proof of the pudding is in the interpretation of results and action taken or planned as an outcome of collecting the info. 5 free SMS messages were given to people that completed the survey but participation was of course not compulsory.

Cheers.

Re: Weatherzone Survey - 10/02/2003 18:18

I completed my survey about a week ago. I was wondering when someone would post up a thread about it, and when twc would publish the results.

Re: Weatherzone Survey - 10/02/2003 18:18

You r 100% right DS, it was not a mobile phone it was the 5 free SMS calls - sorry, but i would still reject anything offering free anythings - no such thing as a free lunch in my world - but i do give to charity. wink Old, careful & stubborn - youre right!! Anyway is "binned" now - may i suggest next time it is posted up before hand by a "weather god" or what ever they are!

Re: Weatherzone Survey - 10/02/2003 18:37

The Weatherzone survey was sent out as an email to the heaviest 10,000 users of Weatherzone. The email had a link to the survey form. Once completed you were directed to another page where you could register for a free trial of the Weatherzone SMS service.

The email was titled "Weatherzone survey, free SMS trial" or something to that effect. If you have your mailer set up to skip emails with these types of titles then you could have easily missed it.

The response to the survey was very good and thanks to everybody who took the time to complete it. We are studying the results and they will help determine future directions for the site.

Re: Weatherzone Survey - 10/02/2003 19:47

Mark, I received the email, but when clicking on the link, it came up with the "Cannot be found" page, i tried pasting the URL into another IE window, but still the error came up.

I really want to complete the survey, is there anything else I can do to be able to fill it out?

Re: Weatherzone Survey - 10/02/2003 21:13

So, is the survey now closed or can you still send it to me? As I use Weatherzone daily, I'm sure I would have made it into the top 10,000 users.
My spam filter would almost certainly have dumped the email straight into the deleted items folder because of the "free offer" content.

I'm not concerned about the free SMS offer but I would certainly be interested in completing the survey.

Re: Weatherzone Survey - 10/02/2003 21:59

OK, now i'm the dumbest & most computer useless person around, but:-
One: why can't the survey be posted up on the forum with a (click here) we copy into word file, file it out and e'mail back?
Two: Sent to the top 10,000 users - what am i missing here not 1,000 members but 9,000 other users?!? FE

Re: Weatherzone Survey - 10/02/2003 22:16

FE, the survey was not sent to Forum users specifically. The survey was sent to 10,000 users of the Weatherzone site (everything else except the forum). The forum has 900 odd registered users. Weatherzone has many many more than this. Less than 2% of Weatherzone users have used the forum. Conversely, it's possible there are some people here who use the forum a lot but do not use the rest of the site very much. These people would not have received the survey. The survey has not closed. You may still complete it and also have the opportunity to trial the SMS service.

For those who registered to Weatherzone with a Hotmail address, it's very likely you missed the survey. We have found recently that most emails to Hotmail are not delivered. Reasons unknown.

If you think you missed the email and want to do the survey, you can complete it by clicking HERE. .

You must be logged into Weatherzone (the site, not the forum) for the link to work.
You must also have been on the list of users who received the original email. The link will not work for any users except for the ones who were the sent the original survey email.

Re: Weatherzone Survey - 10/02/2003 22:19

Guys,

For those who received the email but the URL was corrupted, the survey is at http://www.weatherzone.com.au/survey/survey.jsp . It is not yet closed - feel free to fill it out.

If you did not receive the email but think you should have you can check by trying to submit the survey empty. If you were not selected to take part it will tell you, otherwise it will complain about missing answers and you may go back and fill it out if you wish.

The selection process was an automatic one and was run weeks ago. It will of course not be altered. It's no big deal.

The selection process did not take into account use of the forums, but rather Weatherzone proper. There are alot more users of the latter than the former!

Many users have responded to the survey, many of those have participated in the SMS trial, many have enjoyed the service. There is no compulsion to do any of the above.

Andrew.

laugh Dah! Posted at the same time. I'll leave mine there as some of the details of yours are incorrect, Mark. The link will work, but you can't submit, etc. etc.

Re: Weatherzone Survey - 10/02/2003 22:26

FYI...The SMS messages were great thank you! But better use if I was on holidays away from the computer. I'm logged on so often I don't need the back up there.

Re: Weatherzone Survey - 10/02/2003 23:52

Thanx Mark & Andrew, PLEASE be assurred i was in no way criticising WZ or the survey, simply explaining why i had so ignorantly dismissed the previous e'mail - i think a few other (oldsters)might have reacted similarly. This thread has been very worthwhile for us users & i think/hope for WZ. As you will see by my e'mail address i am a Hotmail client - and it does full up with junk no matter what i try to turn off option!! I've also just entered survey by Andrews "click here" and everything worked perfectly. Also Mark thankyou for making the distinction between WZ & Forum - again it was none of my business anyway, & was a thoughtless comment on my part shocked Hope you get both helpful info from the survey & a smile from a few hopefully suggestions & challenges for Andrews computer program skills. wink Hard to beat perfection but good to see you keep trying! PS U might give Beachy my SMS calls laugh

Re: Weatherzone Survey - 12/02/2003 21:27

Hey TWC guys, just one thing I forgot to put on my survey - under features that I would like provided - I wouldnt mind being able to control animated satpics in the same way as animated radars- ie being able to choose the number of frames, the frame rate or being able to stop and go back and forth through the frames as I please.

Re: Weatherzone Survey - 13/02/2003 20:53

One of the things I thought about putting in the survey (but forgot until after I hit the "submit" button) was exploring the possibility of having private weather stations upload data to Weatherzone. Something along the lines of Weather Underground, but an Aussie version. So long as there was a disclaimer that the data wasn't quality controlled, it could be a useful way to get data from places where there are no "official" stations.

Re: Weatherzone Survey - 13/02/2003 22:44

That would be a fantastic idea, how great would that be if people from all around the world could be looking at your current condintions online or even on the TV. As there are not a heap of people with a weather staion then this might work out well, that should seriously be looked at. Maybe even a small segment on the Tv saying some local condintions from local weather stations around Australia. As long as they didnt show temp readings of 45c when its only 35c or something. That would be exciting, esp to the people who have one!

Re: Weatherzone Survey - 22/02/2003 18:02

Another thing i wouldnt mind if TWC would oblige is a map of the absolute sea surface temps.
