That cell weakened pretty quickly here, couple of nice flashes and some rumbles of thunder with some steady rain.

Hervey Bay. Had a 14mm downpour this arvo,

a few isolated rain cells as seen on radar coming in from the inland from the south ,but looking like subsiding before they reach the coast
on the news for maryborough. they are still trying to capture the croc, seen on Mary river the other day.. 3.5 metre
plenty of estuary and mangroves for the croc to hide
the news said they can travel 50km per day
sad to hear the weather presenter peter retiring. only seen him twice but he is an excellent presenter. can understand why the queen slanders will miss him
is hervey bay still se qld thread?

Yep, Hervey Bay is still in the SEQLD/NENSW thread. All the way up to the Tropic of Capricorn is considered 'SE QLD' on the forum (in other words, south of Rockhampton). smile

There were a few deep booms of thunder around sunrise with a storm about 25kms out to sea. High cloud from storms offshore today killed any chance of a shower/storm developing here this afternoon. There were some short-lived updrafts in the clearer air toward the ranges, but they never really got going. Even if had of got some go in them, they would've stuck fairly close to the ranges today.

Btw, ended up with 29mm from last night's storm. The event exceeded my low expectations, which was for a little light rain (<2mm). Looking forward to the week of dry weather ahead, a nice change from the wet weather we've had over the past three weeks.
If it's not going to rain, it may as well be fabulous and sunny.

I drove down the road to take a look at the 'shower' approaching Jimboomba but i was weakening and was a waste of time.

we had some corkers over 3-4 days at the end of may last year with a massive cold pool overhead so you cant rule it out just yet wink

Laying in bed listening to thunder booming away from what seems to be the tiniest cell just sitting off Ballina... It would be a good 15 -20 km from here but in the still air, the thunder is carrying... Lovely.

The thunder continues.... The almost stationary storm has moved a little further out to sea and become a little larger... About 40km away now. Methinks there has been hours of photo opportunity go begging cause I can't just leave the house. I hope someone from around here has gone and had a closer look.

With the La Nina event gone and all the indicators pointing to a neutral or even an El Nino pattern for the months or year ahead maybe we can look forward to a better storm season next time round.Cant believe how frustrating the last couple of years have been. But with constant cloud cover, high pressure ridges and offshore lows , what else can you expect. In the mean time ,we have to be patient or take a holiday to the tropics overseas

Bob a GND as you mentioned stands for graduated neutral density. Thus by useing this i can under expose the sky by 4 stops of light but leaving the foreground exposed. As you will no to expose an image on sunset is pretty much impossible unless blending images or doing HDR so the GND helps me do it in one shot wink
