Storms seem to be really rare to hit the coast in the Queensland tropics...more so then down south...why is that? Multiple times they die before come off the ranges.

usually they form too far inland or not enough shear and they struggle to make the coast. townsvilles best storms often come from the south, thought yesterday we were a shoe-in, but nope it died. Stuart guage picked up 90mm from it i thought it had miss reported, but reports of heaps of water on side of flinders highway, so could be right.

severe storm warning was issued for about 30min for that cell to our SE, now cancelled. 80mm near Millaroo, Stuart had 90mm in that storm in the arvo, just 1.6mm here! thanks mother nature, the continual tease is getting beyond a joke.

watching a video of Darwin River Dam overflowing, dreaming of just one wet and rainy day, let alone a wet week, let alone making a monthly average.......

EC wants to drop some rain on us with a covergence zone moving thru the area on the weekend, in typical model fashion GFS wants nothing to do with it. keeps a new coral sea low in the central coral sea, stalls, develops a cat 3 system for a few days then scoots it off to the east. on the flip side, Access is with EC. Maybe for once the odds will fall in our favour, my head tells me GFS will be right for once.

If access and ec come off, one night of wet weather, 50-100mm then it moves on and nothing else again afterwards to back it up.

What level is the dam at Trav ?
If they're pumping daily I suppose it's staying fairly sort of steady.

14 percent currently and yes it is remaining fairly level due to pumping but mostly due to some shower activity. When things dry out the consumption is higher than the amount pumped in and it does slowly reduce the levels.

A place just outside of Broome WA scored just under half a meter of rain overnight!

Well this wet-season start has certainly been boring. January failed. wonder what Feb will bring.

if the current run of modelling is right, not much, a new coral sea low forming into a cyclone but remaining stationary in the central coral sea before heading east.

A scattering of storms to the west - wonder if they'll make the coast or die in the a before they get here

enough shear to make the coast, enough instability too, just have to be lucky to have one in line. ingham looking more scattered at this stage though

What is the name of this phenomena? Same in Cairns? Is this seen in other parts of the world? What are the mechanics of this? Why sometimes but not other times?
