Hi new here

Probably been discussed elsewhere.

What i would like to know is when i look at the weather report.
example
http://www.weatherzone.com.au/nsw/illawarra/kiama
and i look at the wind direction and it states S22Km/h does that mean the wind is blowing from the south at 22km/h?

Or does it mean the wind is blowing from the north going south?

another example someone tells me theres a easterly blowing does that mean its coming from the east going west? or its coming from the west blowing east?

Thanks.

Hi fun.
Wind direction = winds are blowing 'from'. So S22km/h means the wind is blowing from the south.

But then it gets even more complicated on the coast... you can get onshore or offshore winds at different times of the day...but which one is a landbreeze..? smile

From/off the land, out to sea.

Land breeze is off shore, usually early morning in winter. At that time the sea is usually warmer than the land, therefore the warmer air rises. It is replaced by cooler air flowing from the land.

The opposite occurs with the sea breeze. As the day progresses the land usually gets hotter than the sea, so the warmer air over the land rises, to be replaced by the cooler air from the sea.

All this is assuming there are no major other synoptic issues around at the time, which can alter these flow patterns.
