According to BoM's site we have had 7 TC's make landfall in April since 1970. Only 2 of those were south of Townsville. STC Aivu in '89 made landfall around Ayr and TC Emily in '72 made landfall just south of Gladstone.

What's also interesting is that there has not been a TC make landfall south of Cooktown outside the first 4 days of April in the past ~50 years.
Not sure about pre 1970. I could not find an easily searchable list.

Cyclone records pre-1970 (when satellite coverage started) are incomplete. Records of coastal crossings on the east coast of Queensland (except possibly north of Cooktown) before then are reasonably good, although it's likely that the intensity of many of them was underestimated.

There were 3 cyclones for Cairns region between 1907 and 1921, at least. My father was born at Aloomba and the family left in 1921 because they'd been wiped out 3 times by cyclones, and my grandfather had had enough.
