I reckon we should extend this thread for a bit more because we have a couple of thunderstorm potential days until Friday bar Monday.

Saturday was a frustrating day for my storm chasing. Started near home on east side of Lake Illawarra. The first storm development for me was the best. There was a high base west of Lake Illawarra that just keep growing and precipitating. Unlike the rest of the weaker stuff around the rain did not move eastwards this usually means back building, and a quick confirmation via radar showed that. Even though steering winds were moderate, lack of movement with steering winds shows boundaries may be in place and development is riding those. Headed west of Albion Park and rain was very heavy, all CGs embedded, some small hail and brief strong winds. Rest of the day was spent on highlands where very unphotogenic cells developed one after another over Mittagong and drifted SE. Low to moderate CG frequency, but scattered all over the place like a dogs breakfast no one point to focus on. By mid-afternoon the southerly scud fest started moving in as well.

Probably got 50-60mm at home for day and the ground soaked it up like a sponge.

I've been offline for over two weeks,(gotta love the internet!)so sorry for the delay in reporting for this storm. My SES unit received over 1200 requests for assistance (our biggest storm ever, locally), and we are still trying to clean up the aftermath, with jobs still dribbling in almost 3 weeks after the huge hailstorm that impacted Casula, Moorebank and Chipping Norton, so many broken tiled roofs....

Some people kept some of the hailstones, and they were the size of cricket balls. It was a very tiring at times, and I'm just now getting on top of my lost sleep. So be careful what you wish for, hailstorms can be a real disaster.
