For the week of June 18-24: Mena's Avg. Max.: 86.0F/30.0C; Avg. Min.: 64.8F/18.2C

Summer officially arrived here in the NH on the 21st & the temperatures were warm & muggy, as per normal. Early-week rain was due to passage (late PM on the 18th) of a Pacific cold front.
Tropical Storm Cindy neared landfall (near Lake Charles, Louisiana) and my area saw high overcast (moving from SE to NW) from this storm on the 21st. Rainfall on the 22nd was from this storm, as several small thundershower cells hit Mena--hitting us from the E/NE--around the counter-clockwise circulation (at this time, Cindy had moved Northwards and was centered just North of Shreveport, Louisiana [which is--as the crow flies--around 150MILES/241.5KILOMETERS SSE of me]). Shortly afterwards, Cindy began to head to the NE. My area was in the NW quadrant of circulation, which turned out to be the driest part of this system. MUCH Higher raintotals were on the Eastern part of this system, as that circulation dragged up TONS of Gulf of Mexico moisture Northwards. Mena had somewhat gusty (but not too bad) E/NE breezes from Cindy as well. Oh well, at least I copped a little tropical moisture & the day was cooler as well. Felt very coolish with the frontal passage on the 18th as well.
Overall High-12:01AM & Daytime Low (during Thundershowers)-around 9:45AM-listed for the 18th.
Forecast for upcoming week calls for warm & humid conditions with fairly good thundershower chances from Thursday through the weekend.

Here's another great & well-done video: The particulars, tracks & cloud-loops of the storms in the Atlantic basin for 2016. Of note is Hurricane Otto (Nov. 21-26) which hit the Atlantic side of Nicaragua and proceeded Westward and emerged into the Pacific Ocean--that's the 1st Atlantic-Pacific crossover since Cesar/Douglas in 1996. The background music are variations of the US Weather Channel Theme music (music which is played during their Breaking Weather/Severe Weather Outbreak/Hurricane coverage): Please see:

For the week of June 25-July 1: Mena's Avg. Max.: 87.4F/30.7C; Avg. Min.: 66.0F/18.8C

This past week featured plenty of sunny, humid & warm afternoons, with cloudy/mostly cloudy & humid mornings. Late-week thundershowers were courtesy of a Pacific cold front that neared my area, and meandered around for a couple days as a Stationary front. Actually copped rain twice on the 30th: Had .65"/16.5mm in a thundershower that began just before 10:30AM, afterwards skies quickly cleared and it became warm & very humid; a fast moving (SE-bound at around 50 MILES PER HOUR/80.5 KILOMETERS PER HOUR) line of thundershowers gave a further .10"/2.5mm rain, just after 10PM; there was also a time of very strong & gusty winds (I heard of at least 1 tree downed in town; only twigs & leaf debris on the ground at my house). We might have had more rain if the thundershower line hadn't been going so fast. The Stationary front triggered off more thundershowers on the 1st.
Minimum on the 30th was around 11:50AM in thundershower activity (the morning minimum was a balmy & humid 72F/22.2C).
Forecast for upcoming week calls for more warm & humid conditions with good thundershower chances for the first half of the week.
Tuesday is the July 4th (Independence Day) holiday here in the US.

For the week of July 2-8: Mena's Avg. Max.: 88.1F/31.1C; Avg. Min.: 67.5F/19.7C

A warm, humid & fairly wet & thundershowery early-July week. A Pacific cold front neared our area & became Stationary and meandered around for a few days, giving the rain on the 2nd & 3rd; an Upper-Level Low crossed our area on the 4th; a Pacific cold front brought the rain on the 5th & a Canadian cold front gave the rain on the 8th.
We don't usually have this many consecutive days with rain in July, so this--and the temporarily cooler temperatures--were a real Blessing. The Heat Index on the 7th (as per Mena's Intermountain Municipal Airport) was as high as 103F/39.4C in the early afternoon. The clouds offered little relief as the humidity aided the warm temperatures for discomfort.
The minimum on the 8th was around 11:15AM during thundershower activity (the morning minimum was a warm & muggy 70F/21.1C.
Forecast for upcoming week calls for tops of 90F+/32.2C+ and fairly good thundershower chances for Wednesday & the weekend.
Hoping we can hit 100F/37.7C for a top on at least 1 day this Summer.

As an aside: Here's a very neat video. It's Exploring Arkansas (with host Chuck Dovish). This is the episode of July 2010, at 16:50 in vid is a segment about Crater of Diamonds State Park (located just South of the town of Murfreesboro in Pike County). This is the Worlds' ONLY Public Diamond Mine. For a nominal State Park fee ($10 for ages 13 & up; $6 for ages 6-12) people can dig for diamonds (& other gems) and keep whatever they find. I've always wanted to go there.
Video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzI3pbbl1aw

Crater of Diamonds State Park website is here:

Scroll down and click on Photos & Finds; updated pictures of diamonds found & particulars on each diamond.
There are a number of these Exploring Arkansas vids on YouTube; some of them have segments on places near Mena & in Polk County. Enjoy!

For the week of July 9-15: Mena's Avg. Max.: 89.4F/31.8C; Avg. Min.: 67.0F/19.4C

This past week featured plenty of heat & humidity, plus a nice raindump. Rain was courtesy of a Canadian cold front which became Stationary just North of my area (before washing out); this triggered off some scattered instability/heating-type thundershowers. Just caught the edge of a cell on the 13th & we were hit by a nice-sized thundershower complex on the 14th. The cooler conditions on the 14th felt very refreshing.
Forecast for upcoming week calls for hot & humid conditions & fairly poor rainchances (20% on Wednesday & 10% on the other days of the week).

As an aside: This is another interesting Exploring Arkansas episode: It's From Nov. 2012, at 20:20 in vid is a segment about the small Newton County community (pop. 13) of Gilbert; the "coolest town in Arkansas". On a number of days each year, Gilbert is the coolest reporting station (temperature-wise) in Arkansas.
Other cool Arkansas locations are the small towns of Calico Rock (pop. 991, in Izard County) and Lead Hill (pop. 271, in Boone County).
Video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atDLFi4zJ2Y

By comparison: On June 29th, Mena had a morning minimum that day of 72F/22.2C; Calico Rock bottomed out at 58F/14.4C, Gilbert dropped to 63F/17.2C and Lead Hill dipped to 65F/18.3C. Enjoy!

For the week of July 16-22: Mena's Avg. Max.: 90.0F/32.2C; Avg. Min.: 68.0F/20.0C

Another week of fairly hot and humid conditions. We caught the outer edge of some heating showers on the 16th & 19th (the ones on the 19th formed just South of town--drifting slowly SSW--and we caught some of the Northern blowoff from it). Aside from those briefest of showers, the scant cloudcover & light breezes provided little relief for the rest of the week. Showers were enhanced by the proximity of a Canadian cold front in N Arkansas (after hanging around for a few days, this front retreated back Northwards as a weak Warm front).
My area of Arkansas was put under a Heat Advisory--from the 20th-23rd--due to Heat Index values being 105F/40.5C and higher.
Forecast for upcoming week calls for similar hot & humid conditions with the best rainchances (30%+) being early-week & late-week.

As an aside: Here's another neat Exploring Arkansas video. At 6:45 in vid is a segment about beautiful Garvan Woodland Gardens (near the city of Hot Springs, in Garland County). Enjoy.

For the week of July 23-29: Mena's Avg. Max.: 90.0F/32.2C; Avg. Min.: 68.0F/20.0C

This week featured plenty of warmth, high heat indexes and a couple nice raindumps. Early-week rain was from heating/instability showers, enhanced by a Stationary front to our North. A Canadian cold front was strong enough to push through my area (and all the way to the Gulf of Mexico), giving the thundershower activity on the 28th. Heat Indexes were quite sticky & miserable; my area of Arkansas was under a Heat Advisory (for Heat Indexes of 105F+/40.5C+) for the (20th-) 23rd & 26th-27th, during the week.
It's Monday here now and the recent Canadian cold frontal passage has actually caused our tops (& morning minimums) to drop somewhat, so far.
Forecast for upcoming week shows no forecasted maximums of 90F+/32.2C+; with a bit cooler mornings; precipitation chances are 50% or higher for Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday. If this keeps up, we may have another Summer without being in a Countywide Burn Ban.

As an aside: Here's another neat Exploring Arkansas video (Oct. 2011): The vid starts with the world-famous Cardboard Boat Races on Greers Ferry Lake at Heber Springs (Cleburne County). [At 3:13 in vid, you get to hear a good Cajun accent as the interview a participant who is from Southern Louisiana, and at 5:47 in vid, they interview a participant from Holland]. Also at 8:04 in vid, you get to take a canoe trip down part of the Mississippi River.

For the week of July 30-Aug. 5: Mena's Avg. Max.: 91.0F/32.7C; Avg. Min.: 67.1F/19.5C

This past week featured warm & humid conditions, a good amount of cloudcover & a nice cool couple of days midweek. A combination of heating & an Upper-Level disturbance was responsible for the shower activity on the 1st & 2nd; my area was also narrowly missed by showers on a couple other days.
This (Sun.) morning a large thundershower area moved through & gave me 2.75"/69.8mm of rain--which is just a bit more than Mena averages in rainfall for the whole month of August! Another Canadian cold front will shortly move through and provide more in-Augustlike coolness & wetness.
Forecast for the next week calls for similar temperatures with the best thundershower chances for early-week & late-week.

As an aside, here's another Very Interesting Exploring Arkansas vid (Jan. 2013): The start of vid takes you along several highways in NW Arkansas which comprise "Arkansas' Moonshine Run"; at 4:11 in vid is a segment on the large round rocks in and near the community of Prim (Cleburne County) and at 18:16 in vid is a segment on Arkansas' portion of the Great River Road. Hello Folks:
Here's previous weeks' weather in Mena, Arkansas:

DATE.......HIGH........LOW........RAIN
Aug...6..78F/25.5C..67F/19.4C..2.75"/69.8mm
........7..79F/26.1C..67F/19.4C..TRACE
........8..85F/29.4C..67F/19.4C..---
........9..88F/31.1C..66F/18.8C..---
......10..90F/32.2C..69F/20.5C..---
......11..89F/31.6C..69F/20.5C..---
......12..86F/30.0C..66F/18.8C..0.45"/11.4mm

For the week of Aug. 6-12: Mena's Avg. Max.: 90.5F/32.5C; Avg. Min.: 67.0F/19.4C

This past week featured some cooler days early-week with a couple very nice raindumps. Rain for the 6th alone exceeds our average August monthly rainfall. Rain was courtesy of a couple Canadian cold front passages (very coolish on Sunday the 13th here with a further 2.30"/58.4mm rain in early AM showers).
The cooler days were refreshing--especially in what is normally a very warm & sometimes very dry month for us; the returning warmth felt nice as well.
Overall High--12:01AM--listed for the 6th (as the Daytime Maximum was 72F/22.2C at the 6:31AM sunrise).
Forecast for upcoming week calls for warm & muggy temperatures with fair thundershower chances for much of the upcoming week.
I really don't mind a wet August.

As an aside: Here is another very neat Exploring Arkansas video; (May 2009), start of vid is a segment on Triple Falls & at 13:10 in vid is a segment on the Buffalo River (which is the US' 1st National River; earning that designation in 1972). Enjoy!
