It started a couple of months ago, i stand up to take my weight off the chair, lift it to as high as it will go, then sit back down.
Within about 10 minutes im almost sitting on the floor!!lol
I was kind of hoping it would just stop, and remain one of those unanswered mysteries, but it hasnt. Infact, sadly its gotten worse.
Im not sure if the chair is broken, or if its just because im a big fat controler!!
I might try and lose a couple of dozen kilos, and see if that helps.
I thought about getting a couple of milk crates, but they leave diamond patterns on your bum after you sit on them for too long.
Maybe 2 milk crates, and a saturday age..... confused

the hydrolic/ gas lift is broken. i dont know if you can fix it. very simular to a car boot going up. im not sure if you have had it long but the older it gets the less it is going to work. ur best bet would be to buy a new one

Its a few years old now Percy. Cost well over $300 back in july 2003. Its got a pretty shiny surface though, it gets polished often. I need the exercise of getting up and down all the time!!lol
Its hard to buy computer chairs when theres so many camera lenses on the market though.

Yer the gas lift is rooted.. same as gas shocks on your car go after time & what percy said above.
Get a new chair, but dont by the cheapies from officeworks or places like that.. I leant back and the bloody arm broke clean off.
Rang them and said what they could do with their nice leather chair! mad

I done that with one of those plastic outdoor chairs about a month ago!!lol Broke the back clean off.

Perhaps if i take off the 10 or 12kg of solid gold bling bling from around my neck each time i sit down it might help...Word-up!! cool cool
Maybe if i tarzan grip the top bit to the shaft bit it might fix it for a while??

Cut a bit of polypipe (the big stuff) to go over the shaft of the chair at the height you want it, no more problems with it dropping down and you'll still have the money for the "L" lenses. wink We've done that to 2 of the 3 computer chairs here and it works like a charm and cheaper than buying a new one. laugh

It cost me about $60 to get the gas lift replaced on my chair, I paid about $300 for the chair. Just go around town and ask who ever sells them if they do repairs.

Good idea Helen, but I doubt that Rob would have access to half a meter of 1" poly pipe.

Damn!! I'm going to have that tune in my head all night now! :p
First option:
2 cartons of VB, you're best mate & a chainsaw.
The chainsaw & best mate are to help you trim up the desk. The cartons of VB to be consumed after the job has been done. I'm sure after the first carton has been consumed it will look fairly good, after the second carton it'll be a piece of workmanship laugh
Second option:
Cut 11 inches off & the door should still open wink
Hint: Make sure Lauretta is out for the day for first option!

Seriously though..... get a quote for the replacement on the gaslift. It cost Jen $58 to have hers replaced.

Hehehe, that's okay, I'll send him some, free of charge... that's what mates are for. wink

simple fast repair would be to get a hose clamp...pull the rubber boot up around the strut and clamp it at the correct height...hey presto...pull the boot back down..and its an invisible repair
